The 2018 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients in the ICU, known as the PADIS Guidelines, provide a roadmap for developing integrated, evidence-based, and patient-centered protocols.
The 2018 PADIS Guidelines include new recommendations related to rehabilitation, mobility and sleep, which seeks to clarify conceptual definitions within these relatively new critical care research domains.
The ICU Liberation Bundle (A-F) is available to teams so that bundle elements can be integrated into daily patient care plans.
The PADIS Guidelines are expected to be updated every five years, or as new evidence becomes available. The 2018 publication is an update and expansion of the 2013 guidelines for the management of pain, agitation, and delirium.
"In addition to bridging the gap between the knowledge we gathered and its application, we believe that this will provide tangible support to clinicians, stakeholders, and decision makers in implementing quality in pain, agitation, delirium, early mobility, and sleep and further foster the application of what we understand to be useful in the provision and delivery of excellent care," note the guideline authors.
