In-Person Deep Dive

Saturday, March 21, 2026
McCormick Place® West Building
Chicago, Illinois, USA
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Central Time

AI is no longer confined to research labs; it’s becoming a part of everyday clinical practice. In intensive care units, AI is now embedded into monitors, electronic health records, and decision-support tools, offering both exciting opportunities and serious challenges.

This dynamic, interactive course is designed specifically for intensive care clinicians—no technical background required. Participants will gain a clear, practical understanding of how AI works in healthcare, where it can go wrong, and how to safely integrate it into clinical workflows.

Through real-world cases and interactive exercises, you’ll explore:

  • Why an algorithm that performs well in one hospital may fail in another
  • How human-AI collaboration can introduce new types of errors
  • What to monitor after an algorithm is deployed, including model drift and unintended consequences
  • Lessons from real-life AI failures—and how to avoid repeating them

By the end of the course, you’ll not only speak the language of AI, but also walk away with actionable strategies to evaluate and implement AI tools in your unit with confidence and care.

The course includes:

  • Half-day of in-person education
  • Up to 3.75 accredited continuing education credits and maintenance of certification points

Learning objectives:

  • Explain in simple terms what AI is and how it is used in critical care, including common myths and limitations
  • Recognize when an algorithm may not work the same way across hospitals or patient groups, and describe how to monitor for these problems
  • Identify when AI advice can mislead clinicians, and practice using forcing prompts or better explanations to reduce errors
  • Explain how algorithms can latch onto misleading shortcuts in data, and why careful choice of labels and features matters
  • Outline a basic monitoring plan for any algorithm in the intensive care unit, including what to track, how often, and when to call for a review

This course is offered as a Critical Care Congress precourse. Attend in conjunction with Congress and save. A la carte registration is also available.
