National Research Action Plan on Long COVID

The Research Plan provides the first U.S. government-wide national research agenda focused on advancing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and provision of services and supports for individuals and families experiencing Long COVID. The reports represent the federal government’s response to ensure the acceleration of scientific progress and to provide individuals with Long COVID with the support and services they need. They affirm the U.S. government’s commitment to addressing the impacts of Long COVID with federal government resources, in collaboration with the private sector, and improving our Nation’s health and well-being.

SCCM Pod-471: Mitigating Diagnostic Delays and Errors With Emphasis on Sepsis

Diagnostic delays and errors are significant contributors to patient illness, injury, and death in the United States. According to the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine, diagnostic errors impact nearly 12 million Americans every year, leading to prolonged hospital stays, increased nonreimbursed healthcare costs, and even more harm when combined with other medical errors.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 as Cause of Viral Sepsis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

From Critical Care Medicine. The authors report that that majority of coronavirus disease 2019 patients hospitalized in the ICU meet Sepsis-3 criteria and present infection-associated organ dysfunction. 


Methylprednisolone and 60 Days in Hospital Survival in Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pneumonia

From Critical Care Explorations. In this study, the authors found that low-dose methylprednisolone was associated with reduced mortality if given greater than 7 days from onset of symptoms, and no additional benefit greater than 14 days; high dose was associated with higher mortality.
