PCCM Audio Summary - July 2026

The July 2026 issue of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) features four original research articles that cover the following topics: outcomes after implementation of a telesimulation program to teach clinicians about sepsis treatment, evaluation of the early central venous-to-PaCO2 ratio and  lactate clearance in shock, identification of disparities that face children with medical complexity and their families who speak languages other than Spanish and English in the pediatric ICU, and determination of clinical factors that predict patient survival and neurological outcomes that differ by patient and provider characteristics. The clinical investigation articles evaluate increased early genetic counseling in the cardiac ICU, the risk of developing chronic kidney disease after undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy, decreased surveillance cultures in children on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and negative effects on outcomes, and postoperative dynamic changes in endothelial glycocalyx degradation markers and their relationship to the development of pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome. The PCCM trial compares train-of-four monitoring to clinical assessment outcomes in patients on neuromuscular blockade with cisatracurium infusions.
