Sepsis and septic shock are leading causes of death worldwide. The international Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) is a joint initiative of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), who are committed to reducing mortality and morbidity from sepsis and septic shock worldwide.
Since 2002, the Campaign has progressed in phases that have expanded its scope.
Representatives from the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine provide direction for the Surviving Sepsis Campaign.
