Fundamental Critical Care Support: Resource Limited
Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS): Resource Limited is designed for healthcare professionals who may encounter critically ill or injured patients in resource-limited environments. This course addresses the unique challenges faced when resources are limited and the impact these limitations have on providing critical care. Participants will learn about managing resource limitations, resource allocation, triage, and ethical implications.
The course focuses on a minimum-better-best paradigm for identifying monitoring and treatment strategies in the setting of austerity or resource limitation. Caregivers must have a clear understanding of available medical experience and skills, evacuation capabilities and timelines, equipment, medications, and other supplies.
Topics from other FCCS courses have been adapted for this course and are combined with new content specific to resource-limited environments. A key aspect of FCCS: Resource Limited is the use of telemedicine to obtain essential subspecialty advice and procedural guidance when transport is delayed. Course content covers recognition and assessment, shock and resuscitation, life-threatening infections, airway management, triage, analgesia and sedation, mechanical ventilation, and telemedicine.
