Todd Fraser, MD, speaks with Alexander B. Levitov, MD, FCCM, FCCP, RDCS, about the article, “Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of Bedside General and Cardiac Ultrasonography in the Evaluation of Critically Ill Patients—Part II: Cardiac Ultrasonography,” published in Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Levitov is a professor in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Director of the Ultrasound Training Program at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. In this article, Dr. Levitov and coauthors establish evidence-based guidelines for the use of bedside cardiac ultrasound, echocardiography, in the ICU and equivalent care sites.
