SCCM Advocacy
Committee
The Society of Critical Care Medicine Advocacy Committee is comprised of multiprofessional SCCM members who monitor a variety of advocacy issues, consult with the SCCM Leadership, and work together to inform membership on efforts to address a myriad of issues impacting the critical care profession and the patients served. The Advocacy Committee is an ongoing part of the Society's commitment to public service. The Society forms task forces (for one-time objectives) and coalitions (for collaborative efforts) when appropriate for improving the delivery of health care services to critically ill patients. The staff partner for this activity is Lori Harmon lharmon@sccm.org.
Activities
The SCCM often collaborates with other professional organizations responding to issues most relevant to the critical care community. In our complex culture, there are many legislative, advocacy, and educational issues impacting critical care professionals, as well as various economic, political, and social activities and causes. It is important to SCCM's leadership that efforts focus on activities most important to its members and that we work in tandem with other Societies to have a stronger more unified voice. As the Society continues its collaboration efforts, it will consider all vital input.
Sign-On Letters
SCCM is often asked to sign on to letters to various organizations showing our support. Click here for examples.

Pay-for-Performance Survey
The Advocacy Committee developed a survey that has been used to gain information regarding our U.S. SCCM Members’ level of understanding, participation, and interest in P4P or value-based incentives programs. The survey closed on March 31, 2010. Results from the survey have been forwarded to the Subcommittee with an article planned in SCCM's newsmagazine, Critical Connections in the fall of 2010.
