Disaster Preparedness

This past year we have seen great tragedy in our world. Be prepared to handle a disastrous event with the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s (SCCM) disaster preparedness resources.

Fundamental Disaster Management (FDM) prepares healthcare professionals to treat victims of natural or man-made mass casualty events. This one-day course, hosted by an institution or taken online, arms critical care professionals with the expertise to manage the critical care response to large-scale disasters.

Preparing Your ICU for Disaster Response serves as a step-by-step guide to help ICU professionals assess their current level of disaster preparedness. Presented in an easy-to-follow format, this toolkit provides practical, usable resources for strategizing and implementing a standing plan for disaster preparedness. This product is available as an eBook only. Access is complimentary for SCCM members and $10 for nonmembers.

SCCM maintains a disaster resources web page. During disaster events, this page provides resources related to specific volunteer opportunities, complimentary publication chapters and podcasts, and relevant links to external organizations and institutions, as well as continuous updates from SCCM and its members.
