The Society's Chapter System facilitates collaborative efforts among leaders and practitioners within the same geographical area. Chapters provide a vehicle for members to exchange information, network with local critical care practitioners, and discuss the impact of national issues that affect their communities. The Chapters are separate legal entities that have their own articles of incorporation and bylaws.

What is the Value of Chapter Membership?
Chapter Programs and Activities
Chapters create multiple opportunities for members to become known by their peers, participate in their community, and interact with local and national leaders. Networking within the Chapter structure allows members to discuss issues related to critical care practice, government policy, and to be recognized as leaders in the critical care community. This involvement helps to provide enhanced career opportunities in scholastic and clinical practice, and is a starting point for national involvement and recognition in the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Chapter Symposium
Often presented as a one or two-day program in your local area, the Chapter Symposium provides an opportunity to meet continuing education needs. Chapters often invite recognized experts and leaders in critical care medicine to speak on a variety of clinical topics and provides opportunities for members with special expertise to share knowledge at the local level.
Multidisciplinary Networking
Chapters provide an excellent forum for the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and information. You'll meet critical care professionals who live and practice in your area and confront similar political and healthcare issues. Multidisciplinary networking puts you in touch with all members of the critical care team and facilitates involvement at the local and regional level. Chapters are a key stepping stone for moving to the national arena, to be recognized and to make a difference on critical issues on a national scale.
Abstract Presentation
Chapters' educational programs provide practitioners and academics with the opportunity to present research findings to peers. Participation in a Chapter poster or oral abstract presentation helps members gain recognition by their peers, and some Chapters provide educational scholarships for selected abstracts.
Leadership Roles
As a Chapter member, you can develop and build on your leadership skills. If you choose to become active in SCCM at the national level, the skills you build at the Chapter level will serve you well.
