This webcast was designed to provide a better understanding of the legal and moral implications of thorny therapeutic decisions in the intensive care unit. Participants will learn what determines unethical or inappropriate therapy practices, how to refuse to provide the care and the consequences of a refusal. Information will be provided using lectures, case studies and audience participation.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this Webcast, participants will be able to:

  • Verbalize the physician’s ethical obligations in providing appropriate therapy to enhance the quality of care for the individual
  • Define the professional code of conduct for physicians and healthcare professionals in the ICU
  • Identify the various factors for determining appropriate therapy in the adult and child
  • Discuss the appropriate steps that need to be taken when refusing to comply with inappropriate or unethical modes of therapy
