Lessons You Need to Know When Providing ECMO

This Webcast is designed to provide clinicians with information related to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Mechanical cardiopulmonary support is most often applied intraoperatively to facilitate cardiac surgery. However, cardiopulmonary support can also be delivered in a more prolonged method in the intensive care unit (ICU). Prolonged cardiopulmonary support is called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). There are two types of ECMO: venoarterial (VA) and venovenous (VV). In this webcast, presenters will provide information on the VV method, which is most commonly used in the ICU. Participants will learn how to set up a successful ECMO program in an ICU, identify the common pitfalls associated with this type of program and learn basic patient management and therapuetic goals to provide quality care.
