MECHANICAL VENTILATION:  TRENDS IN ADULT AND PEDIATRIC PRACTICE
June 19 - 21, 2008
Fairmont Olympic Hotel
Seattle, Washington
USA

Although often a life-saving technique, mechanical ventilation is associated with multiple complications including pneumothorax, airway injury, alveolar damage, and ventilator-associated pneumonia, among others. Furthermore, some data show that mechanical ventilation strategies can affect a patient’s life long after an intensive care unit stay. Decisions regarding mechanical ventilation and related treatments might have more profound and far-reaching residual effects than has been previously recognized, making it imperative that critical care clinicians stay abreast of the latest important advancements in mechanical ventilation.

This comprehensive program examines mechanical ventilation as it relates to the critically ill adult and child. Participate in interactive panel presentations and small group breakout sessions during three morning educational sessions. Through evidence-based information, you will obtain the latest quantitative and qualitative data to maximize patient outcomes. Topics to be covered include:

- Risks and benefits of invasive and noninvasive mechancial ventiliation
- Lung recruitment strategies
- Goals and ventilatory strategies in common disease conditions
- Benefits and concerns associated with various modes of ventilatory support
